If you are interested in fixing bad credit, you are probably wondering if you need to hire a credit repair company. After all, you probably don’t know just how to fix bad credit.
Credit repair companies may help you fix credit fast, but the reality is that the credit repair business is not known for its speed. Still, something is better than nothing. If you don’t have the time or patience to fix credit on your own, then they are certainly a good option.
The reality is that no one can fix your credit as good as you can, because nobody cares about your credit as much as you do! It just takes the willingness to arm yourself the knowledge necessary to win the credit game.
(This is why we created Credit Repair College’s weekly video training – to help people learn everything they need to know to repair their own credit – and once they have that knowledge they will have it for a lifetime.)
Fixing bad credit isn’t easy and it does take time. (At least six months, sometimes a year or more) But, you can see dramatic results fairly soon!
Here are the top mistakes I see people make when they are fixing bad credit on their own:
• Not knowing enough about the process and inadvertently lowering their scores! An example of this is paying off old debts without having a pay for delete arrangement in place.
• Wasting time disputing directly with the lender BEFORE you dispute with the credit bureau.
• Disputing EVERYTHING bad at once and raising a flag with the credit bureaus. This can lead to your disputes being disregarded as frivolous.
• Giving up too quickly. Just because you don’t get something removed the first time, does not mean you can’t get it removed. Sometimes it just takes persistence and sometimes it takes a new strategy! The key is understanding that you didn’t get into this situation over night and fixing bad credit isn’t going to happen over night.
• Disputing online and failing to keep good records! When you are beginning to repair your credit, disputing online can be ok. But after you have the easy items removed, you will want to do all of your disputes via certified mail. This is so you can have the documentation you need to push your dispute to the next level if necessary. Also, some items can not be easily disputed online, like the specifics (date opened or high balance) of an account.
